Bio
Brenda McDonnell knew at an early age that she was destined to help people. Her grandfather was a volunteer firefighter and paramedic and would bring her first aid books showing how to stop bleeding, splint injured limbs and dress wounds. The fascination with healing never diminished. Brenda began her nursing career in 2007 working primarily with cardiac patients. She became board-certified as an adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner in 2020. She also holds certifications as a geriatric resource nurse and a progressive care nurse.
Brenda graduated Cum Laude with her bachelor’s degree in nursing from The University of Texas at Arlington. She also earned her master’s degree in nursing from UT Arlington. Her favorite thing about caring for others is being able to educate her patients in a way that makes for “lightbulb” moments not only for her patients, but for her as well. That is when Brenda knows she has truly connected with the patient and can walk with them on their intended health journey. Her focus on wellness and disease prevention has spurred her to also serve for many years as a cardiac rehab yoga instructor in her free time. Brenda is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.

This was my first visit and she far exceeded my experience with other doctors offices that I've visited. In the past.Jul 2024The whole team works very well.Jul 2024Everyone is very friendly and polite but what I loved, is that I didn't have to wait long for him to attend to me.Jun 2024The only fall back was the wait once I got into the examing room. Other than that everything was great.Jun 2024[...]this visit I was cared for by his nurse practitioner Brenda. She was rude, made me feel like my concerns dis not matter. She practically pushed me out of the room, telling me she had other patients to see and did not have time to address my concern. When I asked her what needed to be done in order to solve my issue she made a grimacing face and said 'I don't know", shrugged her shoulders and walked away.It was finally the support staff who aided me in providing me the documents I needed.I never felt as disrespected, belittled and unimportant as a patent as I did this visit.Again, the rest of the staff was great, but Brenda definitely needs coaching on addressing issues with compassion, empathy, patience and understanding - this goes a long way to help make your patients feel like they matter
